5. The Speaker (optional)
The speaker is an optional addition to the Flower. If you find a speaker that is comparable in size to the speaker TeRK recommends, then follow the instructions listed below. If you cannot find a comparable speaker to TeRK’s and would like to use a speaker you already have, then follow Steps 5-6 listed below to connect the wires to your speaker. You can keep your speaker in the flower box after you have finished the Flower recipe.
If you are not connecting a speaker to your flower, then skip this part and go to Step 6 > The Petals.

- Place the speaker face down on the yellow felt and trace around the speaker with the pen.
- Cut the traced circle from the felt.
- Squeeze a thin thread of glue around the edge of the speaker.
- Glue the speaker to the felt as shown in the photo above.
- Strip roughly 1/4" off one end of each strand of 20” 22-guage wire and strip ¾” off the other end of each strand.
- Thread the 3/4" of bare wire through the speaker leads and twist them so they are snug against the leads. Loosely wrap the two lengths of wire around each other.
- Put a piece of electrical tape over the leads for insulation.
- Thread a zip tie through both sides of the body of the speaker as shown in the photo above.
- Thread a zip tie through the two zip ties from Step 8 to make a harness as shown in the photo above.
- Thread another zip tie through the harness but do not tighten it.
- Bend the zip tie and insert it through the hexagon.
- Tighten the zip tie around the L-bracket and hub at the center of the hexagon until the speaker is secured felt-side up.
