If a power cable was included with your kit or you have already created a battery-power connector cable, continue on to step 2.

  1. Taking the DuraTrax battery connector, strip off enough wire such that when the wire is placed in the crimp the bare wire runs the length of the inner set of tabs on the crimp.

  2. Using the pliers, fold one of the outer tabs onto the insulated part of the wire.

  3. Fold over the other tab, such that the tabs are squeezing the insulation.

  4. Fold over one of the inner tabs onto the bare conductor portion of the wire.

  5. Fold over the other inner tab, ensuring that the inner tabs are contacting the bare conductor.

  6. Test the robustness of your crimps by holding the crimp in one hand, and giving the wire a sharp tug with the other hand. It is much better to recrimp a wire at this stage than to have a crimp failure while the robot is operating!

  7. Crimp the other wire of the battery connector using steps 6-11

  8. Put the crimps into the connector housing. WARNING: Make sure that you observe the polarity of the connector. If you are looking at the housing such that the tab is facing you, place the red wire in the left housing position and the black in the right position. When you are finished, the connector should have two male connectors that are mirror images of one another.
